ENHANCED PRENATAL CARE

Currently, Fresno has two prenatal care programs that offer women support and services to help ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. Participants in the EMBRACE Study will be receiving prenatal care using one of these models. Participants in the study do not choose which of the prenatal care models they are assigned to, it is based on their provider's assignment and their due date.

GLOW! GROUP PRENATAL CARE & SUPPORT

The Glow! program, overseen by First 5 Fresno County and offered by community agencies, consists of prenatal care in a group of women with similar due dates plus wrap-around services, in which resources are brought to women, and childcare, food, and transportation barriers are addressed.
Research on group prenatal care models has shown promise in improving some outcomes, EMBRACE will contribute to that research.

COMPREHENSIVE PERINATAL SERVICES PROGRAM

CPSP, a program of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and overseen locally by the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH). Prenatal care providers provide usual one-on-one prenatal care integrated with nutrition, health education, and psychosocial services.
CPSP is offered widely throughout the state, but despite that, rigorous studies of its effectiveness have not been conducted.
